V-Day 3 Ways: Your Love

I don’t think that Valentine’s Day is just holiday for those in relationships. Ok, yeah, that’s kind of the point, but it doesn’t have to be! In my mind, V-Day is a day to celebrate the people you love…whether it’s a boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend, mom, dog…everyone deserves a little lovin’! Leading up to Valentine’s Day I’m going to be posting ideas for V-Day 3 Ways: with friends, with your lovah, and most importantly, with yourself! Being single doesn’t mean you need to mope around on February 14th…no matter what your relationship status may be, you can show your gals and yourself some love this month.

Whether you’ve been dating for a week, a year, or you’ve lost track, it’s nice to spoil and be spoiled on Valentine’s Day. After all, it’s a day dedicated specifically to the person you love! My favourite V-Day of all time was last year, when my boyfriend made me an amazing 3 course dinner and wouldn’t let me lift a finger. I got to get wine-drunk and watch him cook for me. That time spent together was SO magical and I wouldn’t have had it any other way (I’m even making myself nauseous, sorry). ANYWAYS, you could easily spend anywhere from pennies to a fortune on your S.O. to make Valentine’s Day special…here are a few ideas that I may or may not be using this year or in years to come.

1. Get Crafty
I don’t know what people did before Pinterest…I swear 99% of my creative ideas were somehow inspired by something I saw on Pinterest. That said, it can be rough to sift through the MILLIONS (dramatic?) of ideas on the website. Here are a few of my favourite sappy, gross ideas that I’d be willing to put in the effort to make:

“These are a Few of my Favourite Things…” – Easy as pie! Fill a bag with some of your man candy’s favourite things…snacks, booze, something meaningful to your relationship…this is where you can show that you WERE listening while you were on Instagram while he told you about that one memorable time with his friends.

Homemade Card – I find this one on the right HILARIOUS, and it’s such a simple way to show that you care. It honestly means so much more when you’ve put in some effort to craft a card instead of rushing to Hallmark at the last minute.

Fruit Bouquet – Am I the only girl frustrated by the fact that you can’t buy boys flowers? I mean you could, but would they really appreciate it? I love the idea of making a man-bouquet or in this case, a strawberry bouquet in a jar of chocolate. You get the best of ALL worlds: surprise your love, have a fun and romantic activity, and eat chocolate covered strawberries. Everyone’s a winner!

2. Fort Night
I DO NOT KNOW why I have never done this before, but it sounds amazing. Whether you surprise them with an awesome fort when they get home or you join forces and build one together, this makes for a hilarious yet SUPER romantic getaway for the evening. Utilize everything you’ve got…blankets, pillows, couches…your skills may be rusty from childhood, but I can assure you that it’s like riding a bike.

What to do when you get in the fort? Aside from getting cozy, prepare some snacks (I’m a huge proponent of chocolate or cheese) and set up a movie. Bonus points if you have one of these pocket projectors to screen your favourite romcom (or horror flick, to bring on the cuddles).

3. Fancy Feast
I wrote about this in one of my CgC Daily articles, and it works perfectly for Valentine’s Day! There are so few times as an adult that you get to get dressed up and take pics to document the occasion. Unless you’ve got weddings to go to, you’re more or less damned to couch selfies in sweatpants with beer (just me and my bf? ok.) Why not get all dolled up, snap a few dorky prom pics, and go out with your love? Let’s get real, we all generally can’t afford to go to a swanky restaurant…I think it would be HILARIOUS to dress to the nines and hit your local McDonald’s. You get a cheap (and delicious…again, just me?) meal, and you’ll have a night to remember with your love. Also, it gives you a KILLER opportunity to wear some of the amazing dresses I found below, and to see your lover all sexied up. It’s a win-win!
