V-Day 3 Ways: Girlfriends

I don’t think that Valentine’s Day is just holiday for those in relationships. Ok, yeah, that’s kind of the point, but it doesn’t have to be! In my mind, V-Day is a day to celebrate the people you love…whether it’s a boyfriend, girlfriend, best friend, mom, dog…everyone deserves a little lovin’! Leading up to Valentine’s Day (which is 2.5 weeks away, WHAT) I’m going to be posting ideas for V-Day 3 Ways: with friends, with your lovah, and most importantly, with yourself! Being single doesn’t mean you need to mope around on February 14th…no matter what your relationship status may be, you can show your gals and yourself some love this month.

My relationship status has changed a few times over the past few years (I’m hoping this time it’s here to stay!), but whether I have a BF or not, my friends are always my tru luvs. Your friends are there for you to gossip (and bitch) about boys with, be excited for you when you fall in love, and pick up the pieces when you fall out of it. Girlfriends are the easiest people to spoil on Valentine’s Day…since there’s no relationship pressure, it TRULY is the thought that counts (as opposed to the classic pre-holiday bf/gf disclaimer “omgggg you don’t have to get me anything!”) With just a little bit of thought & creativity- and if you so desire, a little bit of cash- you can treat your friends to a lovely Feb 14.

1. Treats!
Unless you have the unfortunate affliction of dairy intolerance (praying 4 u), chocolate is always appreciated and devoured. One of my favourite things I did for my friends on Valentine’s Day was inspired by Lauren Conrad (obvi). She posted about a DIY treat jar for your friends, and I put my own spin on it. The outcome was ADORABLE (and worth 1 instagram like in those days, apparently) and I’m highly considering doing it again this year! The definition of “treats” is also left to interpretation…if candy isn’t your friends’ style, no one is going to say no to a bottle of rose; it’s “festive”!

2. Slumber Party
Who says your 20’s are too old for a slumber party? The easiest way to celebrate with your friends is to host a Valentine’s Day themed sleepover (or, if you’re feeling bitter, an anti-love party). Throw on some of these adorable pyjamas, pop that bottle of rose that we discussed earlier and toast to friendship. Throw on a romcom (or maybe Blue Valentine, if it’s not that kind of party) and get white girl wasted until the only love on your mind is that for your girls and the bubbly goodness in hand.

3. Bling
First of all, whenever I hear “bling” I think of this clip from The Hot Chick:

Just me? Okay, fine. Anways, if you ARE willing to spend a little extra money on your friends, there are some incredibly cute jewelry options out there at different price points. Who doesn’t love a little bit of sparkle, especially from a constant in your life like a best friend? This necklace by Kate Spade is simple and adorable (and for that matter, ANYTHING by Kate Spade could make for a cute V-Day gift). If you’re looking for something a little more heartfelt, I found this tutorial for a DIY ombre necklace on Cupcakes & Cashmere. I made one for my bestie for Christmas, and I actually really liked how it turned out. A few bucks at the craft store may be more your style and makes for a super sentimental gift.
