Things To Be Happy About

I’m having a dark cloud kind of day. I woke up before the sun, I seem to be getting a cold, and I’m already in a bad mood about work.

This is SO not the way to start my week.

I just caught myself feeling grumpy, and I am determined to turn this mood around. IT’S CHRISTMAS GOD DAMNIT. Time to be cheery and joyful. I had a great weekend, so why not think about the things in life that make me happy- some big and some tiny or seemingly insignificant. It seems silly, but just compiling this list put some good memories in my head and helped ease me out of my funk.

1. My family.
I love my weirdo family something fierce. My sister is finally home for the holidays (pet rat in tow) and is finally old enough to enjoy hanging out with me. My parents are the sweetest and funniest pair in the world. They’re the best and the holidays remind me how great they are! (/end mushy feelings).

2. My friends.
I had a Christmas party this weekend (and didn’t take a single picture! #problogger!!!) and was kind of nervous because most people didn’t know each other. It turned out better than I could have expected, and everyone had a blast with each other. Just watching my wacky random friends get along warmed my little black heart and reminded me how amazing my people are.

3. Puppies.
Literally nothing makes me happier in this world than puppies. This would have been #1 on my list had I not felt that people should probably come first. The other day I met a bulldog in the elevator and it brightened by day before it even began. I told his owner this. He looked at me like I was nuts. No regrets.

3b. Any and every other baby animal.
This includes but is not limited to: goats, kittens, rabbits, most species of wild dogs/cats, human babies.

4. My bed.
I love doing activities, but curling up in my best is the best feeling. I also just got a new duvet and it has CHANGED THE GAME.

4b. Waking up in the middle of the night and realizing you still have hours left of sleep.
I genuinely smile when I see that the clock says “3:00″…still so many z’s to be caught.

5. A perfectly balanced chai latte.
When Starbucks does it right, they do it RIGHT. When the milk to tea ratio is perfect, it fills my heart with warmth and happiness.

6. When your footsteps fall in sync with the beat of your music.

7. Coming home from work to my boyfriend having made me a delicious dinner (and leftovers for lunch the next day).
Ps Stefan you are included in friends & family, for when you text me saying “why wasn’t I on your list?”

7b. Pretty much any meal that is large enough for me to have leftovers for lunch.

8. When the subway doors stop right in front of where I’m standing.

9. Someone telling me they like my blog.
This simultaneously makes me awkward and uncomfortable and blushy. But let’s focus on the positives.

10. The end scene in Guardians of the Galaxy when Baby Groot dances.

Thats my list! When you get stressed this holiday season, try to remember the things (big or small!) that make you happy.

Let me know what makes you smile, and have a GREAT week!
