Summer Book Club – What I’ve Been Reading

Hola! Welcome back to my blog! (myself included)

I hope you got outside this weekend and enjoyed the FANTASTIC summer weather!!! Seriously, it upped my mood 1000 points not having to wear a jacket. Although I did manage to binge watch the whole season of 13 Reasons Why on Netflix. My little heart was torn into a million pieces…Happy Easter?

Stef and I spent the rest of the weekend bopping between our families for Easter lunches, and on Friday we went axe throwing for my friend Brandon’s birthday.

YOU GUYS.

Have you been axe throwing before? I’ve gone a few times and it never gets old! I get way too competitive and I’m not even close to good at it, but I had the best time. If you have the chance, you HAVE to try it!

Speaking of things you have to try…lately I’ve been reading some fan-freaking-tastic books, and I felt like I needed to share them with you. I go through phases on my commute, and while I’m currently in a podcast mood (should I write a post on my favourite podcasts?) I am coming out of a v v v deep book phase. Here are 5 of the books that I read and loved…OKAY, 4. One is an addition to a series that was just released and I CAN’T WAIT to read it!

Bookworms of the world, enjoy…and let me know what you’re reading so I can add them to my list! Whether you’re hitting the pool, hopping on a plane, or cuddling up on your couch this summer, any of these books will keep you occupied and get your brain moving!

The Handmaid’s Tale
Ok fine, I’m a band wagoner. I’ve never read anything but Margaret Atwood, but when I saw the trailer for the upcoming movie, I had to check out The Handmaid’s Tale. I loved it, and it is scarily poignant with the current political climate…
Scrappy Little Nobody
Anyone who knows me knows that I love me some Anna Kendrick. Her book is funny, truthful, and gives us theatre nerds a gratuitous handful of Broadway references.
Truly Madly Guilty
If you loved Big Little Lies on HBO, you need to check out some of Liane Moriarty’s other books! I’ve read a few and just recently finished Truly Madly Guilty – just as much of a page-turner as her other books! I swear I burn through these books in a day or two…I just HAVE to know what happens.
Mississippi Blood
I’ve talked about my love for Greg Iles’ Natchez series a few times. It combines a few of my favourite genres – crime, mystery and history. The newest book came out this spring and while I’m yet to read it, I’ve been waiting for this baby for a year. I can’t wait!!!

A Little Life
I stand by my statement...this is one of the best books I’ve read in a LONG time. It is so well written, heartbreaking, and completely gripping. I won’t lie, it can be a tad graphic and unsettling…but sometimes we need a taste of reality, right? By far the best thing I’ve read in the past year.
