Queen has been my favourite band since I was a wee little rocker-wannabe; don’t ask me how many times I saw the musical We Will Rock You. I missed my chance to see Brian May (and all of his glorious hair) and Roger Taylor (aka the cutest man alive) when they played at WWRY years ago, and I thought I’d never get the chance again. I THOUGHT WRONG. Paired with glam rock diva Adam Lambert, Queen came rolling into town this weekend, and I have to say that I was mega impressed.

Queen fans need to get off their high horses about Adam Lambert. We all know he isn’t- nor will he ever be- Freddie. We lost the king 23 years ago and while it was a tremendous loss for rock music (and a year before I was even born), there needs to be a separation between Freddie Mercury and Adam Lambert. Once you remind yourself that he isn’t trying to be Freddie, merely pay homage to him, his vocals will BLOW YOU AWAY.

Brian May’s hair has never been bigger, Roger Taylor’s (and his son Rufus’) drumming was incredibly tight, and the entire performance was everything I wanted. The finishing touch was intermittent videos of Freddie; tears were shed throughout the stadium. Bohemian Rhapsody was performed with tasteful projection of the original music video, and Adam didn’t step in until the middle of the song; he gave Freddie his moment to continue to wow us.

The show opened with my personal favourite song, Now I’m Here…a few beers in, and I was having the time of my LIFE. Decked out in heels that make my feet hurt just looking at them and enough leather and glitter to put a drag show to shame, Adam Lambert KILLED IT. He owned the stage and reminded us all what a rock vocalist should sound like. From chugging Moet & Chandon on a velvet couch during Killer Queen to batting his eyelashes after nailing the high belting in Somebody to Love, I don’t understand how anyone could not be entertained.
