My Go-To Makeup Routine

My Go-To Makeup

My dirty mirror and I are back with some beauty talk! We all know I’m a beauty addict… However, I think I’m done with my phase of buying every latest-and-greatest product, and sticking with what works best for my face. I’m still a sucker for something new and exciting, but I’ve tried my best to limit my Sephora trips and use what I know looks good. I’ve finally (FINALLY) come up with a routine that makes me feel like a rockstar. I know that I can mindlessly put on these products and feel put together, pretty and confident. That’s what it’s all about, chicks! As long as YOU feel pretty, you’re ready to go out and kill it! *high kick*

After rinsing and moisturizing my face, the very first thing I do is put a few dots of Urban Decay’s Naked Skin Colour Corrector under my eyes. I’ve talked about it before, but my dark circles are no joke. This peach toned concealer is the only thing that comes close to covering those suckers up. Next is whatever foundation I’ve been loving lately…I’m really not picky, and am easily persuaded (thanks, Elanna). This season I’ve been trying the Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation, and I don’t mind it! Let me know what your favourite foundation is, because I’m always hunting for the holy grail. After applying my foundation with a beauty blender (ok fine, I went with the cheaper Real Techniques version this time…) and avoiding my nose so that my freckles don’t get covered up, I toss some Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer wherever I need it (aka pimples galore and the aforementioned black holes under my eyes). Beauty blend again (sidebar – how often are you supposed to clean those things? Because I definitely don’t do that enough.)
Lately I’ve been turning back to bronzer…my 18 year old self hadn’t been revisited in a while. I love Hoola by Benefit because it’s matte and not too intense. I use a fluffy brush and dust that in a 3 shape around my forehead, cheeks, and under my jaw. I also throw some on the sides of my nose because a beauty guru told me that it makes your face look better. Blush is my weakness – I LOVE BLUSH. Maybe it’s because I’m pale as fuuuuuu, but I love adding some warmth to my cheeks. I got the NYX Sweet Cheeks Blush Palette at an event last year and have been loving the shimmery shade in the top left and the deep burgundy shade on the bottom row, but my all time go-to is Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 Hour Blush in Blissful. It’s an orangey pink shade that for whatever reason makes me look lively and not overdone.

The final touch to my face is Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop.

Y’all. Where have I been.

I just bought this a few weeks ago, and cringed as the cashier rung it through. It is stupidly expensive for a product that is not essential to my makeup routine. Buuuuut, like….it kind of is essential. I didn’t realize how much my cheekbones needed some shimmer until Becca entered my life. I dust this across the tops of my cheekbones, down the bridge of my nose, on my cupid’s bow, and if I’m feeling flirty & fun, I run it across my eyelids. MAGIC.

Once my face is #Flawless, I move on to the untamed creatures I call my eyebrows. I’ve recently given up trying to shape them and just tweeze the blondies that show up in between my brows. It seems to be working, and I’m loving how low maintenance it is! I’ve recently been trying a NYX eyebrow pencil, but tbh I wish I had just shelled out the money for my fave Anastasia Perfect Brow Pencil. It is so easy to use and matches my colouring perfectly. Back to Sephora I go. I fill in my brows with a pretty light hand – if you hadn’t noticed, I’m pretty fair – and set that in place with a clear brow gel (Anastasia Brow Gel if I have a moment of weakness, but Great Lash Clear Mascara in reality after the Becca purchase).

Eyes are my favourite part of my routine, and I’ve found the combo that makes me feel my best! I’ve been using my Tartelette In Bloom Palette every day for the past few months, and have been using the shit out of two shades: Funny Girl on my lid, and Smarty Pants in my crease. It’s warm and shimmery without being full on sparkly, and I LOVE it. I blend it out and turn to the biggest on-again off-again relationship in my life: winged eyeliner. After Christmas, I swore off eyeliner. I decided it’s a waste of time and that I look fine without it. Last week, I had a moment of weakness and am back in love with a sharp black wing. Lauren Conrad taught me everything I know, and I love how it completes my eye look. Kat Von D Tattoo Liner is my absolute holy grail.

If I’m not picky about foundation, I’m REALLY not picky about mascara. Whatever I have on hand. Benefit Rollerlash is probably my favourite to date, but I think I’m using a random Covergirl tube that I picked up last month. I have pretty long and curly lashes (woe is me) so they contribute to my low maintenance and easy routine.

Lastly, lips. I love lipstick yet always forget to wear it. Makes no sense, but here we are. My two all-time favourite shades are Kat Von D Studded Kiss in Lolita (smells amazing and goes on like buttah) and MAC Lipstick in Faux (prettiest nudey pink). I feel like a million bucks when I throw on one of these two shades, but rarely wear them during the day because I can’t be bothered to reapply. Laziness wins every time…

And there we have it! My go-to makeup routine. Let me know what your favourite products are, I would love to try them out and mess with the routine I’ve perfected. What can I say, I’m a serial beauty buyer.
