Girl Boss Tips: How to Be Balanced & Motivated

It’s your friendly neighbourhood basket case, comin’ atcha with some thoughts on being busy.

I used to thrive on being busy. I loved doing every possible activity available to me, and managed to do them all well. Cut to university and a lack of commitment to extracurriculars (other than socializing. I was verrrrry good at fitting parties into my schedule.)

Now that I’ve resumed real life and have remembered my love for a full schedule, it dawned on me that I forget how to juggle a busy life. IM STRUGGLING, GUYS. Between work, friends, boyfriend, family, theatre, blogging, and regular life responsibilities (I see you, mound of dirty laundry), I seem to be losing my mind. Basically, I’m dying to take back my life & my time. I seem to forget how to fit everything into my schedule, so I’m hitting the reset button in hopes of figuring it all out.

I looked to some of my busiest girl boss friends for tips on how to crush every day and make it count. These chicks know how to balance a crazy schedule and still manage to look good doing it…I’m proud to call them my friends! I admire and am so inspired by these ladies and their commitment to their work. I know I’ll be putting their suggestions to good use; let me know if you agree!

“I’m really protective of my time. I say no a lot and at the beginning of the day I write down 3 things I want to make sure I get done that day, and try to avoid multi-tasking. I also schedule meetings and phone calls in the afternoon to save morning hours (when I’m most productive) for work that requires the most brain power.” – Jess Keys, The Golden Girl Blog and Blogging For Keeps

“I find that speaking out the truth of being overwhelmed is very important for me personally. Once I can admit that I need help, a break, or whatever it may be, I can tackle it. This is where great friends and Mum come in. I’m a talker through and through, so talking through my thoughts is a necessity. #extrovertproblems. I’ve also had to learn a lot about myself. Learning when to say no to something, how to pace myself, and sticking to what I know makes my heart sing are key to my happiness and success. And let’s be honest, when all else fails, a really good soak in my tub with a great book solves all wrongs. As for staying motivated, I get a lot of my encouragement and ideas from my nearest and dearest. Letting my hair down and laughing away the night help clear my brain and charge me up for a day of writing, a busy week at work, or just simple reset of the mind. Dinner and drinks anyone?!” –Brittney Bonnick, Bubbly & Bold

“Plan your week ahead. When you make these plans, stick to them and voila! You have your week done. Plan your meals ahead. Nothing’s worse than starving while editing a video and realizing there’s no food in the house so you binge eat a bag of chips. Plan plan plan. Wake up early. You want to have everything done by 3 (if you work at home). Go outside, enjoy nature and alone time withOUT media.” – Elanna Pecherle, youtube.com/ellepearls

“No matter how hectic things get, I always try to put myself first. Luckily, I don’t suffer from FOMO, so if I had a crazy work week, I have no problem staying in for a night (or an entire weekend). It’s important to be unapologetically selfish when it comes to yourself and your health.” – Emilie Nolan, Emilie Etc.

When all else fails, turn to Jess’ other tip: “Wine?!?”
