El Furniture Warehouse

I love being in Toronto; there are so many amazing restaurants to try, and it’s impossible to get bored of the food options available. That said, setting aside time once or twice a week to meet friends for dinner can get super pricey…this girl cannot afford to dine out like she used to. When my friend recommended El Furniture Warehouse to me and told me that the food is $5, obviously I was all over it.

Located in the Annex, El Furniture Warehouse is a wildly hip restaurant; duh, it was born in BC. The vibe is very relaxed…think twinkly lights everywhere and knickknacks all over the place. I was shocked that it was so busy on a Monday, but we were seated no problem. TBH I looked up reviews before going and was preparing myself for the worst; people recounted horror stories of terrible service. Imagine my surprise when we were seated immediately and our waitress was awesome; we were in and out in an hour.

While the drinks are pricey (a pint was $6.25, not terrible but mixed drinks were more) the food makes up for it. Everything on the menu is $4.95, and I wanted everything. I ended up getting a mushroom swiss burger and peppered fries, and all I have to say is WOW. The burger wasn’t just good-for-5-dollars, but it was actually really good. My friend got the veggie burger and a kale Caesar salad, and reported the same sentiments. I’ve also heard really good things about the cheese dip and the mac & cheese. Honestly, the food is pretty good! Obviously don’t expect gourmet, but you really do get the best bang for your buck at El Furniture Warehouse.

I feel like this place is the perfect “I want to meet up with friends but payday is so far away” restaurant, and it also seems like a fun spot to go for drinks. They boast a shot ski and cheap shots, so I will definitely be returning for happy hour one day. All in all I absolutely recommend El Furniture Warehouse to my fellow new-grads/poor young adults…I already have plans to return this week.
