Summer Reads

One of the things I’m most looking forward to about being done university is having time to read. I know I speak for many of my peers when I say that the volume of academic readings we did throughout university made it very difficult to want to sit down and enjoy a novel. That being said, now that I am done with school, I can’t wait to start reading for enjoyment again. I feel like I haven’t read a book in forever! Below is a list of the top 10 novels that I am looking forward to reading this summer…some old, some new, and all very different. ♡

1. A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin
I LOVE the TV show, and have never taken the time to read the books…I can’t wait to finally catch up to the rest of the world!

2. Not That Kind of Girl by Lena Dunham
Girls is such a smart and well written show, it will be interesting to hear more of what Lena Dunham has to say.

3. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
With the release of the film version coming up, I’d love to read the novel in order to compare the two.

4. Uganda Be Kidding Me by Chelsea Handler
Chelsea Handler is one of the funniest people I’ve come across…I’m sure her book is equally as ridiculous and hilarious!

5. Psychos by Babe Walker
Similar to Chelsea Handler, Babe Walker is equal parts ridiculous and amazing.

6. Cutting Teeth by Julia Fierro
This book tells the story of a group of thirty-somethings at a beach house…Amazon says that this book “explores the all-consuming love we feel for those we need most, and the sacrifice and compromise that underpins that love”, and I am so into that.

7. Cupcakes and Cashmere by Emily Schuman
Emily’s blog has been one of my favourites for years, and as a lover of Lauren Conrad’s Beauty and Style books, I’m sure this will be another favourite to add to my collection.

8. The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith
I’ve seen this book at my house for weeks (my mom is an avid reader) and I can’t wait to get my hands on it; I love a thrilling, twisty crime novel!

9. My Drunk Kitchen by Hannah Hart
This girl’s YouTube videos are HILARIOUS, and her new spin on a cookbook will be a hilarious (and useful) addition to my kitchen.

10. Visions by Kelley Armstrong
Kelley Armstrong is a Canadian author, and her novel Bitten has been one of my favourites since I was in middle school. Visions is the second novel in a series (preceded by Omens). I couldn’t put the first novel down, and I can’t wait to continue on the journey that Armstrong has crafted.

I can’t wait to start the GOT books either, and I agree with you that the sheer amount of reading that I have to skim—er, I mean read—each week prevents me from having any time for leisure browsing. On the other hand, I found C&C’s book to be quite disappointing in terms of content. One recommendation I might make is to preorder #GIRLBOSS, which chronicles Sophia Amoruso’s rise as the head of Nasty Gal.
