Liquid Lovin’

Who doesn’t love a good cat eye? Ever since I became obsessed with The Hills– specifically, Lauren Conrad- I have been trying to master the perfect winged liner. It’s been a long journey, but I think I’m starting to get there, and it’s becoming one of my go-to looks! Personally, I don’t think that there is a “right” way to do winged liner…everyone’s eyes are shaped differently, and everyone has their own technique. As you can see in the photo on the left, I have a small birth mark right where you would wing out your liner; this has led me to come up with some creative tactics in order to make my liner even!

Along with my quest to perfect my winged liner, I have also been on the hunt for my favourite liquid liner. I swear I have tried every product on the market; I don’t even want to know how much money I have wasted on crappy eyeliners! Below are a few of the liners that I’ve held on to recently, and a brief review of each product. Continue reading to see which products I give an A+, and which you should think twice before purchasing. ♡

Maybelline Eye Studio

This liner is definitely not my favourite. I am not a fan of gel liners because I don’t like having to clean my liner brush with each use (if you don’t clean the brush, the liner dries and the brush is stiff). The colour pay-off with this liner isn’t great; it isn’t as dark as I’d like it to be, and it’s difficult to get a clean line.

Dolly Wink

I started using this liner when Ingrid, my favourite YouTuber, recommended it. Dolly Wink is a bit hard to find, as it is an Asian brand; I ordered it online, and to be honest the shipping costs were not worth it. However, I LOVE this product. The felt tip is thin and firm, and the colour is very black, which I like; it makes creating a wing very easy. I’m pretty sad to be running out of this liner…I will be using it until the bitter end to draw a guide line on my outer lashline!

Revlon Colorstay

This eyeliner was a big disappointment for me. I am a huge fan of Revlon products, and have never been let down by them. I am unsure as to whether I got a faulty liner, or whether the product just isn’t very good. The colour pay-off is weak; I am yet to find an angle that releases enough product to produce an opaque black line. This liner has a great brush and I generally love pen liners; unfortunately, Revlon’s eyeliner was dissatisfying.

Annabelle Liquid Eyeliner

Annabelle’s liquid liner is by far my holy grail of eyeliners, and has been since I was in tenth grade. My best friend in high school used this eyeliner, and I picked up my obsession from her. I’m always trying out new eyeliners, however I continually find myself going back to Annabelle. The colour is relatively matte which looks great on camera, and the brush is perfect for maintaining control. Not to mention that Annabelle is an extremely fairly priced brand, so you won’t have to break the piggy bank in order to snag a quality liquid eyeliner!

L’Oréal Lineur Intense

I have been on the fence with this liner for quite some time now. The colour pay-off is great; a bit too shiny, but very black. However the brush is extremely difficult to use. It is a small brush, much like a paintbrush; it is super flimsy and this makes it SO difficult to draw a straight line. However I do love the line that this product creates when used properly. I like to dip my Dolly Wink brush into this tube in order to achieve a great line…I don’t hate L’Oréal’s liner, but it is definitely not my favourite.

Love wing-tip eyes. It’s definitely my go-to look! I think a thin tip is key to successful wing-tip so sounds like Dolly Wink is the top choice (plus the packaging is super cute too). When I do wing-tip eyes I find its way easier to make sure its even by drawing it from the outside in. How do you do it?

Hi Gita! Dolly Wink is definitely a great product. I start by drawing the lower edge of my wing on both sides to make sure they are even. Then I line my upper lash line as usual and connect the wing with the thickness that I want that day! Does that make sense? 🙂

Hi Carly! I completely agree with you about the Revlon Colorstay! I could not find the right angle to work, and by the time I decided to use it again it had completely dried up! I only used it 3-4 times and then had it in my drawer for a month and now it’s like a dried up marker. Boo!It’s great to see another new Canadian blogger around these parts of town, not sure if you’re using bloglovin at the moment, but I found you and followed you. I’d also like to add you to my blogroll if you don’t mind? I’ve only come across a few other Canadians so I feel like we should keep in contact!

Hi!! Yay Canadian bloggers! I’m glad I’m not the only one that struggled with Revlon…I felt like such a loser for not being able to make a liquid eyeliner work! Thank you so much for the follow, I will definitely check out your blog. I’d love to keep in contact, we Canadian girls have to stick together! 🙂

Do you know those little stickers you stick on your nails for the perfect french manicure (tip guides)? I always stick them next to my eye, in the extension of my lashline. Then I draw the line and I continue next to the sticker as far as I want it to be. Then I remove the sticker and I have the perfect winged eyeliner. The only thing is that you have to make sure the angle of the two is the same, but that’s not that difficult. You have a nice blog!Would you mind checking out my blog?
